Starting therapy can bring up a lot of questions—and that's completely normal.
Below are answers to some of the questions I hear most often.
If you don't see what you're looking for, please don't hesitate to reach out.
I'm always happy to help.
Getting Started
-
Many people wonder whether what they're experiencing is "serious enough" for therapy. The truth is, you don't have to be in crisis to benefit from counseling.
Therapy can help if you're feeling overwhelmed, anxious, emotionally exhausted, stuck in unhealthy relationship patterns, struggling with self-esteem, or simply feeling unlike yourself. You may find yourself overthinking, putting everyone else's needs before your own, or wondering why, despite your best efforts, life still feels harder than it should.
You don't need to have all the answers before reaching out. Therapy is a place to gain clarity, develop healthier coping strategies, strengthen your relationships, build confidence, and reconnect with yourself.
If you're asking whether therapy might help, that curiosity alone may be worth exploring. Reaching out doesn't commit you to anything—it simply opens the door to a conversation about whether counseling is the right next step for you.
-
Starting therapy can feel intimidating, especially if you've never worked with a therapist before. During our first session we'll spend time getting to know one another, talking about what brought you to therapy, and discussing what you'd like to accomplish. There's no pressure to have everything figured out—we'll take it one step at a time.
-
Finding the right therapist is one of the most important parts of a successful therapy experience. The relationship you have with your therapist matters just as much as the techniques they use.
During our initial consultation, we'll talk about what brings you to therapy, your goals, and any questions or concerns you may have. It's also an opportunity for you to get a sense of my approach and decide whether you feel comfortable talking with me.
I believe therapy works best when you feel heard, understood, and supported. If we determine that I'm not the best fit for your needs, I'll do my best to help you find a therapist or resource that is. My priority is making sure you receive the support that's right for you.
There is never any pressure or obligation—only an opportunity to see if we're the right fit to work together.
-
The length of therapy is different for everyone. Some people come to counseling with a specific concern they'd like to address over a relatively short period of time, while others choose to continue therapy longer as they work through deeper patterns, navigate life transitions, or focus on personal growth.
Together, we'll regularly check in on your progress and adjust our work based on your goals and needs. My goal isn't to keep you in therapy indefinitely—it's to help you develop the insight, skills, and confidence you need to create lasting change.
Whether you're looking for short-term support or a longer therapeutic relationship, we'll work together to create a plan that feels right for you.
-
Not at all. Many people worry they won't know where to begin. That's completely okay. Whether you've been thinking about therapy for years or you're reaching out for the first time, we'll start wherever you are. There's no "right" way to begin.
Appointments

Yes! I provide secure, HIPAA-compliant online therapy for teens and adults throughout the state of Florida.
Telehealth offers the same personalized, confidential counseling experience as in-person therapy while allowing you to attend sessions from the comfort and privacy of your own home, office, or another location where you feel comfortable. Many clients appreciate the convenience of eliminating travel time, making it easier to fit therapy into their busy lives.
All you need is a reliable internet connection and a private space where you can speak openly. Before your first appointment, I'll send you everything you need to easily access our secure virtual session.
Research has shown that telehealth is an effective option for many concerns, including anxiety, relationship challenges, stress, self-esteem, life transitions, and personal growth. If you have questions about whether online therapy is the right fit for your needs, I'd be happy to discuss them during your free phone consultation.
-
The frequency of therapy is personalized and depends on your unique needs, goals, and the concerns you'd like to address. As we work together, we'll regularly review your progress and determine the schedule that best supports your growth and well-being.
If You're Using Insurance
Treatment recommendations are based on your clinical needs, medical necessity, and your insurance benefits. Many clients begin with weekly sessions to establish a strong therapeutic foundation and build momentum toward their goals. As therapy progresses, we'll regularly evaluate your progress and recommend the frequency of care that best supports your treatment plan.
If You're Paying Privately (Private Pay)
Private pay offers greater flexibility because treatment is not governed by insurance requirements. Together, we'll determine a schedule that best fits your goals, lifestyle, and preferences. While many clients choose to meet weekly, others may benefit from meeting every other week, monthly, or at intervals that best support their ongoing goals and personal growth.
Regardless of how often we meet, my goal is to provide the level of support that's most beneficial while helping you develop the insight, skills, and confidence to create lasting, meaningful change.

Insurance & Fees

Yes. I am currently an in-network provider with Aetna, Cigna, Optum (United Healthcare), Oscar Health, Oxford, and Quest Behavioral Health. Coverage and benefits vary by plan, so I encourage you to verify your mental health benefits with your insurance provider before your first appointment.
If you're planning to use insurance, you may be responsible for your deductible, copay, coinsurance, or other out-of-pocket costs based on your individual plan. I recommend contacting your insurance company to better understand your coverage and any financial responsibility you may have.
If I am not in-network with your insurance plan, you may still choose to receive services as a private pay client. Depending on your insurance benefits, you may also be eligible for out-of-network reimbursement. If requested, I'm happy to provide a superbill that you can submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement. Please note that reimbursement is determined by your insurance plan and cannot be guaranteed.
If you have questions about insurance or private pay options, I'd be happy to discuss them during your free phone consultation.

If I'm not in-network with your insurance plan, you still have options.
Many clients choose to work with me as private pay clients because it offers greater flexibility in treatment planning and scheduling. Together, we'll develop a therapy plan based on your individual needs and goals rather than the requirements of an insurance company.
Depending on your insurance plan, you may also have out-of-network benefits that help offset the cost of therapy. If requested, I'm happy to provide a superbill that you can submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement. Because every insurance plan is different, I encourage you to contact your insurance provider to learn more about your out-of-network mental health benefits. Please note that reimbursement is determined by your insurance company and cannot be guaranteed.
If you have questions about your insurance coverage or whether private pay might be the best option for you, I'd be happy to discuss your options during your free phone consultation.
Policies

Your appointment time is reserved specifically for you. If you need to cancel or reschedule an appointment, I kindly ask that you provide at least 24 hours' notice whenever possible.
Appointments that are canceled with less than 24 hours' notice, as well as missed appointments ("no-shows"), may be subject to the full session fee. Please note that insurance companies do not reimburse for missed appointments or late cancellations, which means clients are responsible for any applicable fees.
I understand that unexpected emergencies and unforeseen circumstances can arise. If this happens, please contact me as soon as possible so we can discuss your situation.
Providing advance notice not only allows me to offer your appointment time to another client who may be waiting for services, but also helps me maintain a consistent schedule for everyone I serve.
If you have any questions about my cancellation policy, I'm always happy to discuss them with you before we begin working together.

Under the No Surprises Act, individuals who are uninsured or choose not to use their insurance have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate (GFE) outlining the expected cost of their mental health services.
A Good Faith Estimate is designed to help you understand the anticipated costs of your care before treatment begins. It includes an estimate of the fees you can reasonably expect to pay for therapy services based on the information available at the time it is provided.
Please note that the estimate is not a contract and does not guarantee the total cost of treatment, as your therapeutic needs and treatment plan may change over time.
If you are paying privately or choose not to use your insurance benefits, I will gladly provide you with a Good Faith Estimate before or at the start of services. If you have any questions about the Good Faith Estimate or your financial responsibility, I'm happy to discuss them with you.

Yes. Your privacy is one of the most important parts of the therapeutic relationship. As a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in Florida, I am legally and ethically required to protect the confidentiality of the information you share during our work together. In most situations, I will not release your information without your written permission.
There are a few situations in which Florida law or professional ethics require or permit me to disclose limited information to help protect you or others. These include:
When there is a serious and imminent threat of harm to yourself or another person.
When there is suspected abuse, abandonment, or neglect of a child, vulnerable adult, or elderly person, as required by Florida's mandatory reporting laws.
When disclosure is required by a valid court order or other applicable law.
When you provide written authorization allowing me to release information to another person or provider.
When disclosure is otherwise required or permitted under applicable state or federal law.
If I ever believe confidentiality cannot be maintained, I will make every effort to discuss the situation with you whenever it is safe and legally appropriate to do so.
If you have questions about confidentiality or your privacy rights, I'm always happy to discuss them before or during therapy. I believe understanding the counseling process helps create a safe, trusting, and collaborative therapeutic relationship.
